  1. I own 5 BMW's one of them is a 2008 Z4.  They are great cars to drive. When you purchase them new, they come with a 4yr/50,000 mile warranty and free maintenance for the same amount of time.  Most used models from the dealer also come with a 6yr/100,000 plan if it is certified pre-owned - That's what you should get if you cannot afford a new one.  Oil changes using recommended synthetic oil (if you are not in the maintenance plan) are $69.95-89.95 at the dealer every 15,000 miles.  That's BMW maintenance schedule. You have a 30K mile inspection and a 60K mile inspection which averages about $400-600 depending on what services you require at that point.  The Z4 is extremely reliable, and if you check all the Z4 and BMW message boards like Zpost.com, bimmerforums.com, bimmerpost.com you can talk to owners and see what they have to say.  I have owned BMW's since 1984 and love them! The only ones with major problems are the ones that were not maintained.  When buying used make sure you get a carfax and only buy one with complete service history.  Good luck!

  2. I am 19, and have owned two BMW's. I have payed for them both (currently paying off the second), and I absolutely love them!

I am paying for rent, tuition, food, fuel, car payments, and car maintenance. They are not too bad in terms of price, and the reliabiltiy is great if you take care of them. You don't need a BMW dealer to change the oil, any shop is capable of doing the work, so why pay the dealer an extra $40? If you are this concerned, talk to the dealer, and ask them about prices.

  3. HONESTLY, stay away from BMW. You will be spending a ton of money on service and repairs. They are NOT reliable, you will have alot of EXPENSIVE problems.

An oil change is an oil change, unless you spec. synthetic oil, which ups the cost of the oil 3x, there is no price difference.

Once again, you will be in the shop with it MORE OFTEN than AVERAGE, and the PARTS cost ALOT more than average. Also, alot of simple jobs on BMWs take more time to do because of the way the engine compartment and top of the engine is designed, so you will be paying ALOT more for hourly labor (my shop charges $80 per hour labor)

You want a roadster type of car like that... I would recommend a Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, or Mazda Miata.
