I am going to train as a midwife but came across a question where somebody asked about being on call 24/7 and the person said that if you are a certified midwife you would never be expected to be on call 24/7 but if your a lay midwife then you are...I was wondering, what's the difference? If i take my 3 year course in university does it mean I'm a certified midwife? I live in the uk but if your from a different country your welcome to answer anyway :)

  1. a lay midwife has no formal training and a certified midwife is on call some days not ALL days unless she works by herself and not in a practice.  By herself she would be on call 24/7
