I recently went to a pro tour race and i took my canon EOS 350D along... unfortunatly.. when i had returned home, i had decided to print my pictures! so i spent HOURS editing and messing around with my pics, then the printing came, i only had MAT photo paper, and my pictures printed TERRIBLE!!!!

now. my question is. is it just the type of paper i printed on that gave me this result or is it the printer or my state of the art, adorable, camara. (be careful how you answer that one!!!!!!!) :) :) :) :)

i was seriously depressed cause my photography has recently had a HUGE influence in my laife and right now im screwed.....

any hints or ideas?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!...

  1. Without seeing the prints and knowing the printer you are asking the impossible. Is your monitor calibrated? Did you use the printing profile for the paper you used? These factors come into play as well. I would not panic right now, just investigate the cause and find the cure. It is not your images causing the problem.

  2. The paper had a hand in the way your photos turned out, but it is more likely that your problem lies with your printer. Inkjet and Laser printers are no match for a professional print from a photography shop or local photo developer.

My suggestion is to save your picture to a disc and take them somewhere to get printed.

  3. ?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!..

yeah if its so important why arent you using a professional lab that will colour match calibrate for you et cetera.

  4. If this is a digital camera, then you still have the original files on the SD card, right?  I find my camera usually require me to do nothing more than load the pics to computer, where photo-management software takes them in.  I can then 'fix' the photos, and have only to slide a cursor one way to improve the colour temperature, and one cursor to set the brightness just a little, and the pictures look great.

Print on whatever paper you like, or email them to a printers.

  5. Take the pictures to walgreens/cvs, etc, and have them printed there.  You will probably get better results, so long as the picture looks good on the source computer.

  6. First, calm down. "!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!??" isn't necessary.

It was probably the paper, try with other paper and re-print them.

If you get the same effect, it's your printer.

  7. You DID remember to set the paper type to Matt didn't you? The paper type in the printer driver tells the printer how much ink to lay down, more for Gloss less for Matt. The default for most printers is Plain Paper which will give rubbish prints on photo quality paper.

It might be your paper is just not compatible with your printer, I would need to see the print.

Now you see why professional photographers calibrate everything, starting with the monitor so that what they see on the screen is pretty close to the data in the file, then go on to calibrating the printer so the printer matches that. Otherwise it can be like a 'dog chasing its tail' scenario.
