  1. All  I know is that bridges ice over so they are usafe in that kind of weather. New tech. may be to have heaters on the bottom of bridges to keep ice from forming.

  2. To do construction on a existing road you have to move traffic away from the side you are going to work on.  Then you have to remark the lanes.  This is going to be felt in the stearing wheel of a car or truck as you go down the road as you will be crossing over tire groves in the lanes as they were before.

The same has to happen for a bridge.  A bridge can start before the road, as it takes up to a year to reach 100% of the total structual abilty of the material.  YOu dig to bed rock, pour footings, then uprights for the bridge rails to span over and the pour a new road on top of that.

With adding lanes you have to haul in tons of dirt and rock for fill and then compack it to 100 % so it doesn't blow out and move out from under the road and have the road cave in.

With all of the above you see the public looks on, so building a blind wall so they could would help a lot in some places.  Drives slow down to look and see the changes and change lanes without knowing and hit other cars.  Lane size is reduced in a construction zone, so truck have more problems in this area around cars.

Safety is impacted ever time a car parts on the shoulder of the road, so put a lot of people out and equipment and you have a slow down from h**l and a accident waiting to happen.

Building a better road is posible, but the cost is the problem not the material, it is here and has been for years.  We can build a interstate that holds up for years of a few years.

  3. That is a long and involved question. First, on safety, bridges are the first to develop ice because cold air affects it from all sides, not just the top like a road. Smooth, straight roads tend to make drivers go faster than the posted speed limit. This one we can't avoid because every highway must have 1 mile of straight run for every 20, which can be used as an emergency runway for aircraft. Rough, broken surface roads make drivers drive slower, but there is a chance of losing control over bumps. New technology on roads include wireless temperature sensors placed a 1/2 inch under the asphalt. When temps drop below freezing, the sensor will send a message to the road maintenance crew. If the reading is less than 0 C, there is no ice. If the reading is 0C, and the outside temp is -4 C, the road is ice covered. Other tech advances include polymer additives in road topping to make it more flexible, avoiding spring cracking. Less oil content in the asphalt also makes the road less slippery during the first 15 min. of rainfall.

  4. try to avoid all bridges

  5. think of it as the worse the weather the more cautious the driver. Also new technology can improve road because they can prevent car accidents or a bridge collapse like what happened in Minnesota.

  6. new technology like new bridge supports and cables could hold bridges safer, and traffic lights along with other technology helps keep the flow of traffic moving at a safe pace

  7. i have no idea

  9. well it affects us becuase if we cannot get somewhere it will affect us obviously..some of us cannot get to work..some of us cannot help other..there for we might have to take extra time to find other ways to get where we need to go.

and well technology really would help us..

it could guid us in a new direction for safety and new approaches on how we deal with certain situations.

  10. 2 parts :

1.. Speed of cars; badly maintained roads..potholes.. slows down cars and in some cases, accidents.

1.. New technology through research on road materials to bring  about better grips for car tyres.. better drain-off during rain storms,...etc..

Lastly it all boils down to the car drivers.  If they choose to be considerate to other road users.. I will not elaborate on the inconsiderate road user.
