    I would omit the comma myself, but keeping it certainly isn't a mortal sin, grammar-wise.

    It's worth checking out, or sending to someone who needs a gentle reminder about writing well.  The article includes excellent writing tips like:

    *Always avoid alliteration.

    *Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.

    *Avoid cliches like the plague—they're old hat.

    I'm sure you'll find it helpful...or at least get a good laugh.

  3. No you shouldn't put a comma there. A good way to tell if you should is to see if the separated parts of the sentence could be its own sentence. your second half would not work.
