1. A bug completes on lap along the edge of a circular planter of radius 19cm in 16.88sec. How fast was he traveling? answer in units of cm/s

I took 19cm and divided by 16.88?

Answer: 1.12 cm/s? Can you tell me if I'm right or not

2. How fast in m/s answer in units of m/s.

Answer: 1.12 m/s?

I took 0.477 and divided by 16.88cm/s

If I am wrong-please tell me what I did wrong.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

  1. 1. The questions states that the bug completed one lap around the circular planter meaning he went around the circumference of the planter.

    To find the bug's speed you have to find the total distance he traveled (the circumference) and divide by the time

    The circumference of the planter= 2 x pi x r=119.38 cm

    Now dividing the circumference by the time gives 7.07 cm/s

    2. As for this part it only asks that you convert the speed from cm to m

    1 cm= 0.01m so to conver to m divide 7.07cm/s by 100

    .0707m/s

  2. i dont think that youre second answer is right.

    If he completed the lap in 16.88 seconds and the track was 19,

    Speed = Distance/Time

    Speed= 19/16.88= 1.125592147 m/s

    round up to 1.13.

    Well, I was wrong, if one approached the problem my way or your way, it was still the right answer if you  didnt have to round it to the nearest tenth.

  3. no: distance is 2*pi*19

    speed=distance/time

    speed= (2*pi*r)/time

    1.) (2 * 3.14159 * 19) / 16.88 = 7.07 cm/s

    2.) 7.07 cm/s = 0.0707 m/s

    post above: 100cm=1meter

    divide 7.07/100

    have a good day.
