Hi there,

I am a third year student taking a degree in drama and education.

I am hoping to go on to do a PGCE or QTLS in drama to become a secondary drama teacher.

I am hoping to move in with my partner and his little boy in May 2009.

I am desperately trying to find an institution that is as near as possible to the dorset area.

I am also interested to know if anybody can tell me if it is possible to take a PGCE or a QTLS in drama as an open university course.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am so confused!

Thanks xx

  1. A QTLS is not a course, it is a designation of you being qualified to teach ADULTS.

OK so you want to teach secondary your options are

    PGCE at a university

QTS only route - you work in a school and build up a portfolio of work

GTP you work in a school and study at the same time.

The OU do PGCE but not sure which subjects.

Do you particularly want to teach in a school? You could do the PGCE that leads to QTLS, although this qualifies you to teach adults in reality it is anyone from age 14 upwards. Although PGCE for QTLS are still university courses the universities seem to be farming the teaching out to FE colleges so there may be one closer to you also this is a generic qualification so you learn with teachers of various subjects.

another route would be to take a PGCE in primary teaching, although your training would be  with younger children once you get QTS you can teach any age.

  2. The OU do a PGCE but I can't see that it can be done specifically in drama.

From what I can find so far, the only university close enough to you is Plymouth. There are a few others but they're all quite far away. But anyway, I found that out by doing a google search so why don't you do the same and start from there.
