    If so it means something whose condition is getting worse.

    If you leave wooden furniture outside for example without putting oil or wood protector on it - its condition will deteriorate in the weather.

    The economy is at present deteriorating - meaning it is getting worse than it was.

    Skin deteriorates over the decades as we age.
