This afternoon NPR covered John McCain's naming of Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. Wertheimer, a woman, was openly contemptuous. She literally laughed at Palin, and openly demeaned her. For me, as a woman, this hateful misogynist speech coming from a woman against another woman was awful to listen to.

Did you hear this? What do you think of it? NPR is publicly funded. How dare they mock a woman leader in this way, on the taxpayer's dime?

  1. You have to realize that Ms. Wertheimer would have demeaned any choice of Mr. McCain.  NPR is en extremely Liberal pseudo-news organization and, therefore, despises anything that is considered Conservative.  It was not an attack on a woman.  It was an attack on anything that is not far left.

  2. When Clarence Thomas' appointment to the SCOTUS was finally confirmed by the Senate, Nina Totenberg -- who broke the Anita Hill affair and then continued to report it for NPR as if she was a disinterested party -- was audibly shaken. Her reflexive, impetuous comment immediately after realizing what had happened was to wonder aloud whether Thomas would now recuse himself from any appeals which involved parties who had testified against his appointment during the Senate hearings.

This absurd remark was widely seen as crossing WAY over the line on Nina's part.

Linda's astonishing condescension regarding Palin is of a kind. It's offensive and inexcusable.

Ultimately, the wonderful thing is that it just won't matter. Linda's contempt will be forgotten while others are writing history.

  3. This woman should be fired!

Her job is to cover the  news not to make judgement but like CNN she thinks she knows all.

She is blatantly telling a good portion, maybe even the majority of Americans that they are stupid.. that they don't count.

Who is this little snit.. and who is her employer?  I think a list should be made of unsatisfied listeners and give it to her boss.. maybe she could be fired.  God I hate people like that.

She has a responsibility to the public and she has ruined it.

  4. And you expected something different from the Collectivist NPR?

  5. Well, it is a bit ludicrous to name as vp someone who has very little experience leading, zero national or foreign experience when there were other more qualified women to chose.  Not to mention her falling polls due to the investigation...  really, I don't understand it at all...

Perhaps she will appeal to the uber right wingers ?

Edited to add:  As an American citizen, the thought of a soccer mom with less than 2 years experience at the state level only (and in a state that is one of the smallest, 49th, in population, being next in line to run the country is downright scary.   She has not been through anything on a national level ever.  She has no foreign affair experience.  WHile she is cute and presents herself in a very friendly way, she still sounds like a soccer mom.  I have less faith in her leadership qualities than McCain.  She is against homosexuals, the environment, and has openly stated that Alaska comes first.  She believes in creationism and thinks it would be good to teach it along with evolution.   That is very scary to me.

I know that McCain pretty much had to chose a woman as vp, it would have been total suicide to chose a man, but once the shock wears off I don't think his choice will really help him much.
