All I hear is about his achievements in the senate and as community organizer on Chicago's south side----what exactly did he achieve there?

  1. Got everyone together on Saturday afternoon to go out and staple flyer's to light poles.

Got everyone together on days that there were events in town, so they could march up and down the sidewalk to complain.

Got everyone together for a bake sale to raise money so that they could continue to do the things listed above.

As far as I know, that's all a community organizer does.

  2. Why don't you do your research elsewhere if you are truly serious about learning something. All you'll get here are partisan remarks, with the detractors making immature and ill informed comments.

That is if you are truly an inquiring mind.

ABFM is a classic case in point.

  3. Community organizer == glorified bake sale

  4. He worked with different churches in the community. That in itself is saying allot. Many people who are stuck in one religion think theirs is the only way.

It take a very good man to be able to reach different churches and bring them together helping people with jobs and so on.

If you honestly want to know more go to his site and read.

  5. His community organizer skills on Chicago's racist south side was simply to hate whites.

  6. Dont you get an overwhelming sense of "If you disagree with us, you clearly hate your country?"

These fear tactics dont work for all of us....

Following meetings with U.S. military in Kuwait and Iraq in January 2006, Obama visited Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian territories.

He left for his third official trip in August 2006, traveling to South Africa, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Chad. In a nationally televised speech at the University of Nairobi, he spoke forcefully on the influence of ethnic rivalries and corruption in Kenya.

Obama worked with Russ Feingold (D–WI) to eliminate gifts of travel on corporate jets by lobbyists to members of Congress and require disclosure of bundled campaign contributions under the "Honest Leadership and Open Government Act", which was signed into law in September 2007.

He joined Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in sponsoring S. 453, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections, including fraudulent flyers and automated phone calls, as witnessed in the 2006 midterm elections.

Obama also introduced the "Iraq War De-Escalation Act", a bill to cap troop levels in Iraq, begin phased redeployment, and remove all combat brigades from Iraq before April 2008.

Later in 2007, Obama sponsored with Kit Bond (R-MO) an amendment to the 2008 Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges, and calling for a review by the Government Accountability Office following reports that the procedure had been used inappropriately to reduce government costs.

joined Chuck Hagel (R-NE) in introducing legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism.A provision from the Obama-Hagel bill was passed by Congress in December 2007 as an amendment to the State-Foreign Operations appropriations bill.

Obama also sponsored a Senate amendment to the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) to provide one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries. After passing both houses of Congress with bipartisan majorities, SCHIP was vetoed by President Bush in early October 2007, a move Obama said "shows a callousness of priorities that is offensive to the ideals we hold as Americans."

  7. As a community organizer you are on the street level of communities working to get that community to a better place. For instance he decided to roll up his sleaves and help people in poor communities after the steel plants closed and their jobs were shipped overseas. Every day he would go to these peoples homes and communities and organize them (get them together) and help them get help from their government and educate them on voting and issues important to their community issues that will help their community get into a better place.

The skill here is he went into the poorest neighborhoods, in the roughest areas and organized people, he got people to care about their community, not lose hope in their country, and educated them on how with the help of their local government to become more self reliant.

He organized voter registrations so people would be interested in their local politics and the would know what is going on and getting people out to vote according to the interest of their community.

  8. Basically he went around and signed up people to vote like the people out in front of grocery stores. Then took off for Harvard, came back to the southside of Chicago and ran for state senate having his lawyers discount the voters he signed up if they were for the his competition.

  9. Being taught  how to become a terrorist by his friend Bill Ayers. for a starter. This will all be out in ten days. then the whitey tape will be out the week before the election, and Bill Reilly going to to do a 25 day segment on just who is this Obama. Then you will know the truth.

  10. Spouting off to get people riled.

Ad hominem argument: "immature and ill informed comments"

    To mmkay.. :

Obama's accomplishments were faked. A Democrat leader put Obama's name on all high profile bills.

From the article: Barack Obama and Me

"Jones appointed Obama sponsor of virtually every high-profile piece of legislation, angering many rank-and-file state legislators who had more seniority than Obama and had spent years championing the bills. .. During his seventh and final year in the state Senate, Obama's stats soared. He sponsored a whopping 26 bills passed into law — including many he now cites in his presidential campaign when attacked as inexperienced. ...

It was a stunning achievement that started him on the path of national politics — and he couldn't have done it without Jones. ... Before Obama ran for U.S. Senate in 2004, he was virtually unknown even in his own state. Polls showed fewer than 20 percent of Illinois voters had ever heard of Barack Obama. "

To The Planet : It was not from scratch. A Democrat leader said "I am going to make a senator". He was talking about Obama. He used politics to do it. http://www.houstonpress.com/2008-02-28/n...

  11. I remember a poster asking this way back when and what he said I'll never forget: "Is that like unfolding chairs at the VFW?" LOL.

  12. I like how everyone is demanding that you do your own research thus proving that they haven't done enough themselves to provide an answer.

It's all pretty simple. It wasn't much but he spent quite a few years studying community-organization and put some of what he learned to action in Chicago. It's exactly how it sounds. It's just the act of helping with the organizational teams regarding seminars, conferences and other meetings regarding the state of the city in hopes of improving any problems or hindrances that may have been going on within the community and to help anyone who was effected by them. The main focus of it was to face the reality of issues that the local residents were facing and to help them out as much as possible.

I don't believe that it counts as experience that qualifies him to be president, but the fact that he did is nothing to sneeze at. It's condonable that he spent as much time with it as he did.

  13. Just look at the fact that he built a campaign from scratch, raised a record amount of money and won the Democratic primary. That takes organizational skills that don't come in a Cracker Jack box. If you want to know about his community organizer job the best way to learn about that is to watch his biography the next time it comes on.

  14. Good question.  Why don't you Google his Wikipedia entry and see what comes up?

What did I accomplish on my first job out of grad shool?  I organized a community to fight a giant corporation and its pollution of their air, land, water, and wildlife.  Granted, I'm not running for President, but W tanked several businesses, even with bailouts by his Daddy and his friends, the Saudi's, so not accomplishing anything important doesn't disqualify you from being President!  However, getting elected to the Senate from a large midwestern state is a big deal.
