Please explain ad-aware, spy bot S&D, Avg antivirus,and Java

Ad-aware is a program that prevents adware from being installed on your PC.  Spy Bot is similar.  AVG Antivirus protects from all viruses, not necessarily spyware.  A PC should have an anti-virus, a spyware protector, and a firewall running to properly protect it.  AVG has a version that includes all.

Ad-aware and spybot ( recently renamed spywarestop) protect against pop up ads , spyware, and things like that.   You can use both of them without any problems.  

Avg antivirus  protects against viruses which can range from being annoying to being destructive and harmful to data and even your computer.  YOU must have an antivirus program is you go on the internet. BUT you should only have one av program on your computer - you would get too many false alarms.

Java is a programing language that is multi platform -meaning Windows, Macs, and Linux machines can all run the same Java files. It comes with windows and i think macs  not sure about linux. If you even need to update you can download from Java.sun.com     Lots of programs have bits of java code inside so the programer doesnt need to reinvent the wheel by codeing something already done

See there are different classifications of sneakily software that can be install/infect your PC with out your knowagle.

Ad-ware, and SpyBot S&D just remove Spyware.

Avg Antivirus removes virus from your PC.

Java however is advance program that is a add-on to your browse (Internet Explorer or FireFox) that allow you to play online games, chat and many other things with in your browser.
