The details are, 4 vehicles as listed on police report they are as following veh 4--veh 3--veh 1-- veh 2.

police report states 2 hit 1, 1 hit 3, 3 hit 4.

okay 2 was sited for following too closley which was 18 wheeler. no other citations for 1,3 or 4.

car 1 is saying 3 put on brakes, 1 put on brakes, as 1 was slowing down 2 hit 1, then 1 hit 3 then 3 hit 4.

BUT car 3 is saying car 1 hit car 3 first, which cause car 3 to hit 18 wheeler (which is car 4), then car 2( which is also a 18 wheeler) hit car 1.

Now who is at fault? wreck happen on interstate at rate of 40-55mph.. Please help me understand

  1. The last vehicle in the line would be responsible for everything for not paying attention and or following to close.

After thing about this a little longer the last vehicle would be responsible but years ago the same thing happened to my friend and each other vehicle that was rear-ended sued the other parties insurance and it was a complete mess.

  2. If the sequence is what 1 and the police report both say, then 2 is at fault.

If the sequence is what 3 says, then 1 is at fault.

Most likely, 2 will be found at fault, because of the citation and police report.

Strange that the cars said anything.  Rather odd that there were two talking cars in the same accident.
