  1. The heart pumps blood into 2 closed circuits- systemic and the pulmonary circulations

The left side of the heart pumps freshly oxygenated blood into the systemic circulation to all tissues of the body except th air sacs(alveoli) of the lungs, In systemic capillaries, blood unloads oxygen and picks up carbon-dioxide.

At the same time, the right side of the heart pumps deoxygenated blood into the pulmonary circulation to the lungs. In pulmonary capillaries, blood picks up oxygen and unloads carbon-dioxide which is exhaled.

Freshly oxygenated blood returns to the left side of the heart to begin another pass through the systemic circulation.

This should explain everything and this ain't from the net^_^
