She is not fully potty trained and is quite disruptive at times. I guess I am asking the patience level of the teachers as her class will have about 20 other kids. Anyone have or had children in pre school to relate their experiences or difficulties?

  1. Headstart and Preschool teachers have a lot of patience when it comes to children.  Give it six months in school and she will be potty trained because she will be around other children her age.  Preschool is a time for them to develop social behavior and branch out and learn how to deal with situations.

Both my children went to preschool and have bloomed and made quite some friends.

  2. I HAVE A 3 YEAR OLD THAT JUST STARTED PRE SCHOOL ON MONDAY THE TEACHERS HAVE A LOT OF PATIENCE AND THERE ARE CAMERAS AT MY DAUGHTERS PRESCHOOL SO THAT WAS PRETTY COMFORTING I ADVICE THE TEACHER TO HAVE LOTS OF PATIENCE WITH HR AND THAT ANY CONCERNS CONTACT ME BUT SHE WILL BE FINE SHE WILL ENJOY PLAYING WITH THE OTHER CHILDREN

  3. I am a Head Start teacher.  We expect these situations, and deal with them all the time.  She will probably decide in a hurry to use the potty, because she will be surrounded by her peers, most of whom will be saying I have to go potty, and she'll just naturally say it too!  And don't worry about disruptive behavior.  That's part of what Head Start is about:  learning to follow routines, learning to respect others, learning to listen when appropriate and talk when appropriate, learning good manners, learning self-control.  It sounds like you have made an excellent choice in sending her to Head Start!  In my area we have an excellent HS program and often have a long waiting list to get in.  I hope the program in your area is as good and that you and she will treasure her experience as a HS student!  Have a wonderful school year!

  4. Children are accepted "as is" into these programs.  If they aren't prepared to deal with potty training, then they would have let you know before accepting her in their program.  Teachers are trained to deal with disruptive children.  (But I'd bet $5 she won't be 1/10th as disruptive as she is with you!)  If there is anything to be concerned with, the teacher should let you know.  Just make sure to ask the teacher occassionally how things are going.  Your child should also be able to tell you how things are at school.

Everything that I've read/heard tells me that preschool/headstart is only there to let children socialize.  All my child does is play all day so she can learn how to mentally deal with different situations.  And she's loving every minute of it.
