  1. Some older diesel engines used natural rubber gaskets and hoses (mostly found in engines manufactured before 1992) and some seals aren’t compatible with biodiesel, some of the same engines need sulfur to lubricate their pumps and injectors.

Now it’s not like you kill the gaskets, hoses, and seals right away, it does take some time, what happens is biodiesel will degrade the rubber and causes a failure. Most of these parts do wear out anyway and the replacements will probably use Viton which is nonreactive to biodiesel. So those parts may have already been upgraded.

Bio-diesel is low sulfur and some older pumps need sulfur to lubricate them, but ALL diesel sold in the US is Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) and if the pump needs sulfur it will fail sooner or later and will need to be replaced even if you never use biodiesel.

Basically just about any diesel sold in the last 10 years can use bio-diesel with no problem, some older diesels may have problems and will need to be upgraded, and some of the upgrades are necessary even if you don’t use bio-diesel because of the missing sulfur.

  2. Run it through a very fine filter so there is nothing ,that could stop up your injectors.
