Please fill me in,Georgia is a state and Russia is a country so what's going on.?

I'm lost and I did not want to ask but i am so confused,how can Russia the country and the state Georgia be at war.Georgia is part of America right,I don't want to sound like a Blonde but,A state and a country can't be at war.so are we going to war again.I don't think there is a country called Georgia .

Georgia is a country to the south of Russia, which used to be under Soviet rule. Russia has recently invaded Georgia.

LOL I guarantee you if Russia was taking over half of Georgia the state right now... there'd be more than 'humanitarian aid' going on.

There is a Georgia that is a state and is part of the United States. There also is a Georgia that is a country and used to be part of the Soviet Union. If you get a newer map and look along Russia's southern border, you will see the country of Georgia.

It is the country of Georgia that Russia is fighting--not the state.
