My friend and I are doing a sociology project involving recycling. It would be a huge help if you took this quick survey. Please be as accurate as possible! Thank you!

Answer the set of questions that apply to you:

IF YOU DO RECYCLE:

1.Why do you choose to recycle?

2.What kind of materials do you usually recycle?

3.How long have you been recycling for?

4.What percent of your “waste” do you recycle?

5.How many bags of trash (waste that is not recycled) do you produce a week?

6.Compared to others, how wasteful do you think you are on a scale from 1 to 10? (10 being very wasteful)

IF YOU DON’T RECYCLE:

1.Why don’t you recycle?

2.What would have to change in order for you to start recycling? (This could mean the environment or the recycling system itself)

3.How many bags of trash (waste that is not recycled) do you produce a week?

4.Compared to others, how wasteful do you think you are on a scale from 1 to 10? (10 being very wasteful)

  3. I do recycle.  answers to questions;

    2) I recycle everything my town allows:  paper, plastic, glass and metal.  If I have larger items or items that cannot be recycled with our weekly pickup, I wait for an area recycling event and bring these items there.

    3) I've been recycling ever since I moved out on my own.  I grew up in Chicago, where at the time recycling did not exist (blue bag program not around yet).  When I moved to the suburbs, this was my introduction to recycling.

    4) I estimate between 25% of our waste is recycled.

    5)  Under 1 bag of garbage per week (2 adults and1 child in our household)

    6)  Probably a 5 at best - although I recycle what I can, I'm sure there is more I can do.  I've avid about "recycling" and "re-using", but am not good at "reducing".
