  1. Experiments done on the Space Station are very important to us here on Earth.  One reason is that how else would we know that "things" (bacteria, plants, etc., etc.) grow much, much faster in space than down here, they think due directly to the gravity of Earth.  

    Another one would be the gravity, or lack thereof, in space.  How else would we know that when we try to go to Mars (to do other exploring) we are gonna' hafta' do somethin' about the gravity (and also the rays from the sun), so that we will be healthy when we get there.  Gravity on Mars is 1/3d that of Earth, and it's not even know, yet, whether, or not, that would be enough to sustain man, while up there.  If not, then Mars might be a place to visit, but we couldn't yet live, much less, terraform the planet.
