  1. In agreement with the answer to question 1.  Also, the LD50 number for Anthrax is relatively high, meaning you need quite a lot of micobes to enter your system before infection. (In the common cold, you only need ONE Rhinovirus).

For question 2, I believe it is d.  The wording is confusing. It can't be a, cause the sucrose is not the thing that would move in Osmosis, but the water.  Still, the concentration in the cell would be higher, so water should move in.  This, however, could lead to osmotic lysis, so it's probably b or d.  Weird choices of answers.

  2. 1) Both smallpox and anthrax are deadly, but anthrax isn't always fatal or threatening if it is cutaneous (skin infection only). If it is inhaled or digested, it's chances of causing death increase greatly, whereas with smallpox, all forms of infection are equally fatal, no matter what body parts are infected first.

Also, anthrax is bacteria, so very potent anti-microbials are effective against it, and it's easier to treat. Smallpox is a virus, and there are no cures for viral infections.

And, smallpox has been eradicated, so there are no more smallpox vaccines for babies in the First World, meaning if there's an outbreak many people will not have immune defenses against it.

    2) A, I think.
