  1. Draw and cut out a huge bear, bigger than a human for example.  Let them colour/paint/mosaic etc the animal and hang in the classroom, that's a start and the children will enjoy being part of the bear taking shape.

Also, you could do songs and stories about bears.  Teddy bear picnic (song), Goldilocks  etc.

  2. i know read a book about bears like "brown bear brown bear" and then tell the kids to draw what the learn form the book or have a play about bears.

  3. Well- it depends on the type of "bear" that you are wanting to focus the theme on- real-life bears?  Teddy Bears?  After this, look at the different aspects of a theme that you can use with this topic-  When planning curriculum, I consider using:

-WORDS (create a word chart for the children to look at and recognize as the theme progresses...They may even begin to recognize the letters and sounds- I have a picture of an example word chart.  If you would like to see it, e-mail  me at shutterbug1410@yahoo.com)

-SNACK AND MEALS (I have a recipe for "teddy bear biscuits" that are fun and super easy to make with preschoolers.  I have included it at the end of my post- they are sooo good and fun!)

-ART- create an art project that centers around this topic- Use different materials that will help the children relate to "bears".  For example, fake fur or soft brown fabric, a bear shaped cookie cutter to be used as a stencil, etc.

-LEARNING CENTERS- Use different types of play and exploration to help the children relate the information about bears that you are sharing with them to their imagination and life.  Some learning center ideas are: "Bear Cave"- provide a couple of large boxes to be used as imaginary "bear caves"; "3 Bears"- for dramatic play, have the area set up with props (clothing, cups and bowls, a bed) as the plot of the story "Goldilocks and the 3 bears", etc.

-SONGS AND GAMES- For circle time, sing/play out the story "Goin on a Bear hunt"- this is also a book by: Michael Rosen

Anyway- those are just a few ideas that you can use for a theme with preschoolers- This age group learns really well through hands-on experiences and exploration- and they will have a great time with it!

    Hope this helps!

    TEDDY BEAR BISCUITS

    INGREDIENTS

1 tube (7-1/2 ounces) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits (10 biscuits)

    1 egg, beaten

    2 tablespoons sugar

    1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

    9 miniature semisweet chocolate chips

    DIRECTIONS

For each bear, shape one biscuit into an oval for the body and place on a greased baking sheet. Cut one biscuit into four pieces; shape into balls for arms and legs. Place next to body. Cut one biscuit into two small pieces and one large pieces; shape into head and ears and place above body. Brush with egg. Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over bears. Bake at 425° for 8-10 minutes (the one remaining biscuit can be baked with the bears). Place chocolate chips on head for eyes and nose while the biscuits are still warm.

  4. What I did with my class was I had them make "Bear-Fresheners" using coffee grounds (used and dried, you can go to Starbucks and ask them for some, they've got sacks full). Using a cut-out of a bear, I had my students apply glue on the cut-out and sprinkle the coffee grounds on top. It's an activity that's simple, and exercises their fine motor skills.

  5. aww i remember in preschool we had a teddy bear picnic. we had to bring our favorite teddy in and we ate gramcrackers and honey outside =)
