  1. 1.  Location of Mirzapur and the 82.5° E longitude that is used as the reference longitude for Indian Standard Time.  India has their own time zones seperate from Greenwich Mean Time (UTC).  The longitude difference between Vindhyachal and the United Kingdom's Royal Observatory at Greenwich translates to an exact time difference of 5 hours 30 minutes. Local time is calculated from a clock tower at the Allahabad Observatory (25.15° N 82.5° E) though the official time-keeping devices are entrusted to the National Physical Laboratory, in New Delhi.

    2.  Latitude.  Kashmir is much farther north than  Kanniyakumari which is at the southern tip of India.

  2. Standard time zones can be defined by geometrically subdividing the Earth's spheroid into 24 lunes (wedge-shaped sections), bordered by meridians each 15° of longitude apart.

24 lunes. One lune represents 1 hour. Each lune having 15° means that 24 x 15 is 360°, ie. (the earth).

I hope you understand this :)

India is 15x5.5 = 82.5° East from the GMT lune :) So India is +5.30GMT
