Question:

Please give me your opinion on 6 panel door painting.?

After a little digging on yahoo answers, I came across the method of using a small roller on all the flat areas, and a paint brush in the slanted areas (on the panel sides). Will this give me a bumpy/textured look due to using the roller? The doors have a wood grain little raised texture. I think semi gloss white is what I'm going to use.

I have to paint 2 doors. I know a spray painter would be best but I can't justify paying $60 to buy/rent for 2 doors.

Do you think my method would turn out ok? Do you have any other methods that have worked for you in the past? Leaving them as a creamy white is not an option with high gloss white moldings.

thanks!!!

  1. I just finished painting 8 hollow core creamy white doors myself because we painted the trim white semi gloss.   I used a 1 inch brush for all of them just to save from using two different things. I found that the one inch brush was easier for the slanted parts than a two in brush.  I had to prime them first of coarse.  It's not a fun task but the finished product looks 100 times better!

  2. You can either do as you describe; using the brush and roller.  Or you could just use a brush.  I've done both methods and it's really a toss-up.  Both ways work well.  One is more of a pain to paint (all brush) and the other is more of a pain to clean up (brush, roller, and tray).  With only doing two doors, it will be easy either way.  Good luck!!
