Please guide me, in making my pc as a dns server?

I have windows 2003 server installed on my pc I want to configure it as a dns server so that other clients on my lan may acccess my pc using name server.i also dont have any idea abt active directory.plz guide step by step .

  1. If you install active directory using the dcpromo command ( Start ---Run--DCPROMO) from the command prompt you  be given the option to install DNS at that time. The wizzard is pretty straightforward.

  2. you need to have dns configured before you can install and configure ADUC ( active directory users and computers )

    If you have another computer attached to the same switch as the machine with server 2003 installed on it - you can use nslookup on the other machine to test if dns is working correctly if so then when you enter the ip address of the machine with server 2003 on it - it should return the netbios name of the server and when you enter the netbios name of the server it should return the ip address of the server.

    Once that works ok with no issues then you can move onto installing and configuring ADUC.
