here are the questions, if you guys can help me out.

-define phi

-do you think that our ability to find phi in nature is a coinicidence or is there something else to it. (2 ex)

-do you think its mankind's desire to build architecture and create paintings to phis ratio or is art imitating life or something esle (2 ex)

-do you think the existance of the golden ration in the world around us is evidence of an underlying order to the universe or mankind's desire to find patterns in the world and attach a mening to them when they truly dont exist.

  1. Mathematician Mark Barr proposed using the first letter in the name of Greek sculptor Phidias, phi, to symbolize the golden ratio,

    Ratio = 1.61803399

    I do not believe that it is a natural discovery, rather it has taken a lot of work and observations throughout time.  If something keeps popping up in nature, a curious person is going to want to know why.  I do think that it is natural for the human mind to explore.  And through our explorations, we discover truths.

    I do believe that here are a lot of perfections in the natural world, a certain order to things.  So I do think that people who use the ratio are trying to imitate perfections in nature.  There are some artists who are trying to express themselves differnetly, but the Greeks were interested in ideals.

    There is no doubt in my mind that there is a natural order to things that we have yet to explain.

    In terms of art and architecture some things look very off balance, or unappealing if there are not certain "rules" that are followed.  However, rules are made to be broken.  So when a person breaks those rules with a purpose then it is an expression of art in and of itself.  Classic sculpting and architectural style relied heavily on ideals.  A lot of this had to do with trying to please the "gods".

    As far as learning this yourself, this is something that involves philosophy.  There is nothing wrong with discussing ideas with people.  It's not like you asked someone to do your algebrae.  Just use thesed idea, do a bit more reading on the web.  You'll find some fascinating things that people say.  The Golden Ration has fascinated many types for thousands of year.  You can't figure out any right or wrong answers, as to why it is true.  You can take a lot of different ideas and present them.  And then come up with your own ideas and support them.

  2. Answer it yourself. You never learn anything by just taking someone else's anwer
