I posted earlier today about how water seeped into our basement from the joint between the wall foundation and the floor of our basement. Someone mentioned that I needed to fix the soil outside. NOW we have another unusual situation. I went back downstairs and noticed a single puddle near the middle of the floor and the water was seeping into the other finished room through the drywall. This puddle was not near the foundation wall and wasn't connected to another puddle. There is a sewer pipe above it, but I checked it and it was completely dry. Where did this water come from? I just don't understand. Should we get a plumber out here? I don't know who to contact and where that puddle came from. It was about a three foot by three foot puddle.

  1. Don't call anyone till you pinpoint the locale! Keep looking. You will find the source.Good luck.

  2. Probably not a plumbing problem but don't rule it out, if the water doesn't smell bad its' probably ground water percolating up through a porous concrete slab. Cut or have a hole cut at the lowest point and dig a hole couple feet deep. Fill to within a foot of the floor with gravel, put a sump pump in with piping running out the underpinnings- it will only work when it has to and will last for years. Cover the opening with a predetermined grate. Don't panic its' just the pressure of the ground water.
