So here's what's up. I have a job as a cashier. i've been at it 3 weeks and get it really well. it's not too hard, but boring as heck just standing there all day. and it's usually long hours. anyway i just got another job which i start next week as a waitress. this waitress job was actually my FIRST choice and seems way better as well as way nicer ppl. anyway i also have some college orientation stuff i hafta do next week. my cashier job boss is being a jerk and not at all flexible with it. i told him when i started that i needed these days off and he's saying it's gonna be a problem. also in fall, like 2 weeks, when college starts i have a work study job lined up if i want it. SO should i dump the cashier job since he's so mean and not flexible and stick with the waitress job cause they're so much nicer and understanding of my school schedule. and then also take the work study job?! i need a job for sure. and i dont wanna hafta stress about getting the days off i need for family and school obligations?! i'm stressed and mad right now and idk what to tell my boss tomorrow cause i NEED some days/hours off next week for school and my other job and he has me 9-5 all week. im 18 btw. thanks!

  1. First of all, don't leave your job because he's "mean." There will always be c**p jobs and even crappier bosses. It's a fact of life and it doesn't get any better.

Leave the cashier job and take the waitressing job because it will be flexible for your education. Just don't kid yourself into believing that waitressing will be any less crappy. Waitressing sucks. don't quit that job too just because it's a little hard.

Working and going to college is tough, so you can't give up on things because people are mean or it's tough. Show a little backbone in your work.

  2. It all depends.

On your college resume, officials are going to ask about previous work experiences. It's better to see that you stuck with one job, instead of trying out several jobs. It gives the officials an impression that you have persistence and stamina. In my opinion, I would continue with your job as a cashier. It may be boring work, but you've already started it, so it's better to finish it. Also, if you quit because of inflexibility from your boss, it gives off a bad air to people. If you stick with being a cashier, then your boss will appreciate the fact you are committed to the job, and offer you a promotion, and perhaps be more flexible in the future. This will all look much more promising to officials in college. I know money may seem like a big deal now, but there are always other ways to make money, other than skipping around jobs.

    Good luck.
