My dad has been eating eggs for breakfast every single day for years. At least i convided him not to add salts and eat wheat bread instead.. and other little things.. but the thng is, i tried introducing him into eating cereal (fiber One) with soy milk (he is lactose intolerant) but he was still getting reactions to the soy milk!!! so he went back into eggs! his cholecterol level is not so good :( besides he has diabetes, highblood pressure.. and he is 62 years old right now... so basically he cant have very sweet stuff (dont even mention to me splenda or sugar free stuff cuz im against aspartame).. and he cant have too salty stuff either..

another few things i conviced him is to stop eating red meat and eat less of the other meats.. oh and no more processed meat!.. so thats good.. i dont think he would ever stop completally.

***anyways do you guys have ANY ideas of a GOOD AND HEALTHY breakfast??????? i couldnt think of anything! and its pretty much gonna have to be vegan.

please help, im desperate

  1. Breakfast of small bowl of oatmeal with little Stevia as sweetener.

No juices because then he'll get too much sugar. Just fresh apples, a banana, and a little of the other kinds of fruits.  Many fruits have too much sugar in it so he'd need to limit his intake of that.

Stay away from much of anything white -- rice, bread, noodles, pasta, potatoes etc.  Too much carbohydrates in that.  For instance 1/2 of one of those larger slice of packaged wheat bread was too much for my husband's blood sugar level.

Eat a lot of steamed greens in place of the starchy component in meals. Eat small portion of meat (palm sized) with fat cut away from it before cooking and maybe cooked in a pan with 1 tsp. olive oil.  Eat fish and seafood (fish without skin and not fried).  Eat chicken (small portion with each meal) without skin.

Does your dad monitor his sugar level?  Is the doctor helping him with his diet?  My husband was referred to a dietitian after it progressed to a problem with his kidneys.

Stay away from fats and oils -- includes fried foods.

  2. I suggest you buy flax seed or ground flax seed it has very little taste (kind of nutty) and make oatmeal w/ a teaspoon of flax.  Flax has Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acid and helps reduce cholesterol.  You can put it in mashed potatoes or in sauces or on yogurt too.

You can also purchase flax seed oil for the same benefits.

You can by from a great place a called Nuts on-line.

I buy from them all the time. They ship one pound and bulk(5lb) packages.  You can also find it at health food and many major supermarkets.

  3. he should add a bowl of cooked oatmeal to his breakfast menu ( at least 1 time a week)

    lowers cholesterol

    adds fiber to the diet

    low in sugar and salt

  4. definitely get him to try some good oatmeal.  try different ways to give it flavor without using too much sugar.

have him try different kinds of soymilk, rice milk, and almond milk with cereal until he finds one that he likes and doesnt give him reactions.

maybe try whole grain pancakes or waffles (but don't use syrup).

  5. What I did for my father was wait on him and he loved it. I had many of his meals partially assembled did all the shopping so there wasn't anything in the house tempting and gradually he did start preparing his meals when I couldn't be there.

  6. Im sorry he is dying. The best you can do is send him to a nice home where they can take care of him to make his last days as painless as possible. My grandfather died 3 years ago from heart failure.

  7. What about just egg whites they are healthier.

and try introducing him to low in sugar fruits.

    good luck.

and best of wishes to your dad.

  8. cheerios :D

  9. Have him eat egg beaters, they taste like eggs (most times) and they are low in cholesterol.  If he insists on eating eggs have him do half yolks.  So if he usually eats four eggs have him eat just 2 eggs with yolk and 2 only egg whites.  You can also try getting him to eat oatmeal, which will naturally lower his cholesterol.  Good luck and be sure to explain to him your motivation for wanting him to change his eating habits.  I assume it is because you love him and want the best for him.  I helped my Dad change some of his habits after he had a scare with high blood pressure and he has dropped 12 pounds in three weeks.  Good Luck!

  10. you should have him try rice milk with his cereal... it tastes much better than soy anyway.

    good luck

  11. We went through this with my dad too.  I just stopped buying whole eggs and started buying Egg Beaters.  I also added fiber to his diet in sneaky ways, like adding flax seed as a garnish on veggies and adding All Bran instead of bread crumbs when I made turkey meatloaf.

Try to get him to eat some fruit with each meal and substitute brown rice for white rice.  Introduce him to Greek yogurt.  It is much richer than regular and the fat free, some fruit, some granola and a touch of honey actually tastes like a treat, but is a healthy breakfast.

He won't even notice some of the changes if you use herbs and spices creatively.

    I hope this helps.
