Please help, nothings working!?

Today I woke up from a nap and had this terrible metallic taste in my throat. It's so bad that every time I swallow I either gag or come close to gagging. I've drank water, juice, and pop trying to get the taste out as well as eating. The water just makes it worse and the other things only temporarily get the taste to go away. I chewed a vitamin right before I napped w/o drinking anything after so I'm wondering if that's what brought this on.

Two questions: 1- any ideas on how to help me? brushing my teeth doesn't help as its my throat, not my mouth. 2- is this probably from the vitamin or is it caused by something else?

  1. try some yogurt or gator ade

  2. The stuff you chewed probably wasn't supposed to be chewed, read the box. Just keep drinking water, it'll go away eventually.

  3. Sounds like it might be the vitamins.  Does it have zinc in it, or are you taking other supplements with it?  I know zinc has a bad taste...

  4. Many people don't realize that acid reflux can have a metalic taste. Some ppl get spicy some get metallic. Either way, what you described sounds exactly like a GERD or acid refulx response.

Possible causes as to why this happens:

    - To much soda and not enough water can change stomachs ph balance and cause it.

    - Eating to close to sleep time

    - Some people get it if they sleep on their stomaches

    - Spicy foods

    - Stress

    * There a LOTS of reasons it can happy. Just under this list... I'm including a link to a site where you can learn more about it.

    How to treat it:

    - Extra Strength Tums

    - Milk

    - Lay off the soda, or acid based juices like orange juice.

** When you get a bad attack, take tums and start drinking milk. It will calm that feeling in your throat, but it will take a bit to calm it. But, it will make sure that you can breathe and greatly increase your comfort.

-------- Usually once you get the ph balance of your tummy back in check.. it fades away.
