Okay, my mom was chopping onions around 20 minutes ago. And my mom dropped a onion peice. And my dog ate it. ): It was around 1 inch long and around 2 centimeters thick. Will he be fine? I have been observing him and he seems to be fine, and I will keep observing him. Also, roght after he ate the piece of onion I gave him a bowl full of water and he drank 3/4 of the bowl. Okay, so heres the question will he be okay? Also, how much of an onion do dogs need to eat for it to be toxic. Also, can you give me some links to a list of toxic foods to dogs.

I cant take him to the vet since its closes at 6 and its 6:41 over here. And the Emergancy Vets is closed since there is a tropical storm watch over here where I live.

Thank you guys so much!! (: Have a wonderful day.

  2. yes he is fine, dogs have eaten worse!! he drank the water because the onion is obviously hot hot hot!!!! it should pass the next time he goes to the toilet.a wee bit should not do him any harm and may not be toxic im not sure though so maybe some else can give you better advice.good luck!

  3. your dog will be fine. Dog's really shouldn't eat anything except dog food.  Chocolate is especially bad for dogs - really, that's all they need to avoid though.  Dogs never need to eat vegetables because theire bodies create vitamin C unlike a person's.  If dogs do eat human food once in a while they may throw it up because they're not used to eating it, because their diet adapts to the food they are given - however, if they do get sick, it won't be more severe than throwing up.  And when they do, that's just a defence, they don't suffer as much as people might when they throw up.

  4. tiny piece of onion wont hurt him

    he should be fine

  5. if its been awhile and hes ok im sure he'll b fine. is he a cavalier king charles spaniel? cause ur name said cavalier so i figured it was lol. other things that are toxic are choclate, raisins, grapes, onions, macadamien nuts or how ever u spell it lol. my grandma works in a animasl clinic n she said he'll b fine but make sure he doesnt get anymore. they had a lab in last week that ate a relly big onion tht was cooked n the dog was really bad and almost died...

  6. I think he should be fine! My puppy is really sneaky and is always grabbing stuff up off the floor before I have a chance to clean it up, including a bit of onion. No ill effects with her, so I bet your dog will be fine.

  7. you should induce vomiting if it's been less than half an hour. to induce vomiting use 2 teaspoons of hydrogen piroxide.

if it's just a piece he might be ok. heres a list of things not to feed him

    chocolate

    grapes

    raisins

    macadamia nuts

    onions (obviously)

    hope he's all right

oh and there might be a video about it by elise mcmahon on expertvillage.com

  8. Don't worry about it. Just keep an eye on him over the next few days. If he becomes lethargic and his gums go pale, get him to a vet.

  9. He is going to die!!!! he just kidding but if it was a little piece he should be fine don't worry.

  10. it was pretty small he will be ok...but next time be carefull you dont want him eatingtoo much onions they are toxis to dogs make shure you mother doesnt drop a big amount next time

  11. He should be fine, he drank the water to get the taste out of his mouth. It will take more onion than that to get a dog sick. Maybe next time you should make the dog stay out of the kitchen when meals are being prepared for his own good, it also helps to give him manners when you are eating. I don`t allow my dogs in the kitchen when I am cooking, I have a rescue that was burned by boiling water, he jumped up on the stove when the old owners were making mac and cheese. Burned his paws, he lost a toe.

  12. Your dog will be fine, mine eats onions all the time, the reason your dog drank a lot of water is because of the acid in the onion. It's not harmful at all. But make sure not to give your dog chocolates or grapes, because those foods are very hard for a dog to digest and can cause serious health problems.

  13. Don't panic!! He will be fine. Keep an eye on him, if you notice odd behavior such as pacing, panting (only odd if he was not running around and it is not hot in the house.), or excessive drooling give your vet a call. By the sound of it, it was a small piece of onion and should be fine.

  14. A small amount, or even moderate amount will not be toxic.  Only an incredibly large dose, or continual eating of small doses over the months/years will be harmful.

Just google "toxic dog foods" and you'll get quite the list, however, I suggest you ask your vet for one, I'm sure they have a great list.

When my friends dog had possible exposure to rat poison, they gave her a great list.

  15. A SMALL PIECE WONT HURT HIM ........... BUT IVE ALWAYS HEARD THAT DOGS LOVE ONIONS SO MUCH THAT THEY WILL EAT THEM TILL THERE HEARTS EXPLODE......... I DONT KNOW IF THATS TRUE OR NOT BUT A SMALL PIECE SHOULDNT HURT........... h**l BE FINE.........
