Question:

Please help, piggy has a problem?

12 week old farm pigglet looks like he was bitten by somthing, One little hole and a little swelling in the foot. It looks like a mosquito bite that some one has scratched open. Any body every have this problem and what is the best way to treat it?

  1. I would call a vet &..ask his advice before going any further.

If you can pet your pig then pet and comfort it.  Feel the foot, if it is warmer to the touch than the rest of its body there is significant infection.  If your baby will allow you, treat it like you would a puncture wound on a human.  If it is scabbed over and swelling, it should be opened up and allowed to drain.  Pouring something into a small opening does not usually work.  Keeping it drained and the sore clean is your best bet.  If you have a kids wading pool it can play in and change it daily it should help.  Cleanliness is the best answer. As long as it is not a major infection and it can drain on its own piggy should be fine.  Hot Red streaking along the leg means get it to the vet right away.
