  1. It sounds like you need to boot the system with a bootable CD so you can format the hard drive.  If you are trying to do it while you are in the OS you will be unable.  If some sectors are unreadable you are better off buying a new drive as there are problems with the physical hard drive sectors.

  2. I'm sorry to say this but your hard disk is dead. Happens to me all the time.

  3. Insert your System Recovery Partition disk and shutdown your computer. If the disk will not run on reboot, then shut down again. This time press your hotkey during boot to pull up your boot menu. Now, in your boot menu change boot from hard drive to boot from cd-rom drive. Save and reboot. Your disk should now run, but it may stop during system restore. If that happens, go back into your boot screen and change it back to boot from hard drive. This time it should restore without issues.

I'll check back on this post, so let me know if you have anymore issues and I'll post more help.

  4. Raw means that it is either broken or corrupted. The best thing to do is to go to a technician and let them fix it. Another solution is replace the computer or the hard disk.

  5. Use the Windows Installer CD and Reinstall. Then you will be able to format.

  6. You need to create a partition table first on your hard disk, you need to boot in command prompt mode and do fdisk or boot from the windows cd, select the raw partition and create a windows fat or ntfs partition, before formating the drive.
