Is it save to move my Documents and Settings folder in drive C: to my D: drive?

D: is completely unused and has been for a year now.

I thought there were two hard drives for when the space ran out on one, but apparently if I put my data on one hard drive and my programs on the other, it might run faster.

So please can you tell me a safe way of doing this. And, is it safe?

What else would you recommend me put on my second hard drive?

  1. You didn't tell us how much space there is on drive D:

SO if your comp uses drive D as your backup drive, then there may not be much space on it.

BUT, if D: is empty, go and use it.

I would put any important files on it, like pics and games you really like.

You might consider using it as a backup drive though, especially if you don't have backups now of your important files.

Your gonna find out sooner or later that you wished you had made backups cuz a Hard drive don't last forever :-)

  2. Let me tell you what I do and  recommend. It is always a better idea to have my documents on a external hard drive. I keep my documents on a usb external hard drive and the neat thing is you can take it to any computer. its a like a giant flash disk. you said that you have another drive that I am assuming is in your computer as a slave or secondary hard drive. if I was you I would not keep any important documents on your C:\ drive. If you get a virus or that hard drive crashes or your system wont boot up any more then you'll have big problems getting that data back. Simply move your data on your d:\ drive and make sure that you format it first. before you format it make sure that there is no data on your d:\ drive. if you have xp, format to ntfs and allow compression. After you do that, start making folders and start moving your data to your new drive. as for me I still recommend an external hard drive for convenience reasons. In conclusion it is a good idea to move your files to another drive other then the one you have windows installed. I hope this info has helped you.
