I turn the handle, and water doesn't come out. I've tried turning on the valve, but then the water wouldn't stop with the handle, so I had to turn it off with the valve. Can anyone please help me?

Thank you.

  1. It sounds as if the rubber O-ring is gone in the faucet.

With the bottom valves shut, take the s***w out of the handle of the sinks faucet. Remove the handle.  Then undo the nut holding the valve, pull the valve out. You will see a s***w holding a rubber o-ring. Go to the hardware store and buy a bag (5-6) o-rings. Go home and replace the o-rings in both taps. If one is gone the other is close to failing as well.

  2. Sounds like your bathroom taps need replacing. The problem you are experiencing may have been caused by limescale, in which case a limescale prohibitor on your incoming water main would be a good idea. It could also be the rubber seals within the taps, which could possibly be replaced at a cheaper cost.

  3. Needs new washers or O-rings etc. depending on the type. Worst case change the taps. Less than an hour to do for experienced person.

  4. If you have a good water supply (with the valve on) and just can't turn it off with the faucet, you need a new faucet.

Turn the valve off before installing!

  5. Employ a plumber! Sorry but that really is the best option.
