Please help! Can a bank put a lien on my account?

I have a loan with Citi Financial. I haven't been able to pay a payment in 2 months. They sent me a letter saying they are going to put a lien on my bank account. Can they do that? If so, is there anyway to stop it? They do have my bank account info, would it help if I changed the account number?
