I'm having my annual physical exam in an hour & I was supposed to get my first pap smear. My period came a couple days ago, its lighter but not quite finished. I'd like to go on bc pills as I'm planning to be sexually active soon (I'm a virgin as of now). So obviously w/my period i prob wont get a pap, but does that effect her prescribing me for bc pills?? Any insight appreciated!! thx.

  1. I had this happen at my first pap, the doc didn't do the pap, gave me 1 pack of BC pills to go ahead and start since I was on my period and rescheduled the pap for 2 weeks later.

  2. if you are still a virgin they can prescribe for you without a pap... best to call the gyn office and ask what that doctor's view is.

  3. Just reschedule your appointment for next week. I can't imagine a GOOD Dr. giving you BC pills without giving you a pap smear first. I'm sure you can wait to have s*x a week. But if for some reason you CAN'T be sure to use a condom. Even when you start the pill, you're still going to have to use a backup method for a month or two anyway.

  4. If they won't prescribe them for you, you can go to your local planned parenthood and ask for a "Hope Visit" and they will give you a years supply.

  5. my doctor did prescribe me birth control without doing a pap. i wanted an initial meeting to get to know her and we talked and she did prescribe me the pills. i did of course, make an appointment for a pap but at a later time.

  6. unfortunately they wont do your physical at least the pap at your appointment since you are on your period, even if it is light.  And I have never heard of a dr. giving birth control pills to someone without the pap.  Sorry.  Good luck.

  7. No they insist on doing a pap. Unfortunately they also do it every year b/f they refill your prescription.  You should let the nurse know about your period. You probably won't bleed if its at the tail end. I've had to have exams like that before. It was way less of a deal than I thought it would be.

  8. You can still get a pap while on your period.  Believe me, to an OB/GYN, that is absolutely nothing.

  9. you can still get the test done ..trust me, the doctor has seen it all anyway ...

And no, a doctor will not prescribe birth control until you have had the test done ....sorry

  10. ya your dr can prescribe it. and they usually don't do pap smear when you're virgin (hymen)
