Please help? Depo provera question?

Any woman who has been on the depo provera shot, maybe you can give me some reassurance. My husband and I are TTC. I have not had a period in a year and i think I miscarried in June. I did not have a period the whole time I was on the shot and there after. It was a year in june since the last shot. Now I know typically it takes 18 months for fertility to return for some women. But I did not know my reproductive system would shut down completely. I'm broken, it seems. Has anyone else had problems witht the deposhot? and how long did it take for you to conceive after stopping? Thank you

  2. hi,

i know exactly what you are feeling, i too have had the Depo provera shots twice and i wish my doctor would have told me about the damage it does to your reproductive organs, its been 3 yrs approx since i had my last shot of it and still my periods are all over the place!! my best advice to you is to go on the pill to help try and regulate your cycles and then try for a baby after 6 months! best of luck!! :)

  3. I was on depo for nine months (three rounds) and I immediately started my period after getting off of it. They were very irregular and they just started becoming very regular in the past 6 months. I am TTC and it has been 2 years and 2 months since I got off of the shot. I don't mean to bring your hopes down, but you can never tell how long it will take for your reproductive system to go back to normal. Mine obviously hasn't gone back yet as I have been TTC for over 2 years. It is not really the whole reproductive system that s***s down, it's just that your ovaries are not releasing an egg. You are unable to ovulate. I know that some women can get on a drug called Clomid that helps you ovulate, so if you are trying to concieve right away, I would suggest aking a doctor about it. The only other thing you can do is keep on trying and wait for your miracle. Good luck and much babydust to you!

  4. well i've read loads of women's q and a's with the same problem as you. if you search for it on yahoo answers i think you'll find loads of questions like yours. it seems to be that periods don't return for months even up to a year and a half. i hope yours returns really soon....i'll try and find some q's similar to yours now and edit my answer.

  5. I know that you are ttc and you do not want to be on bc, but I stopped the depo shot in December 07' and took the pill until June 07' to regulate myself. After I stopped taking the pill in June I have had slightly screwy cycles but have had a period every month. I have also heard of getting a provera (not depo provera) that causes you to start. Talk to your doctor and see what thay say. Good Luck!

  6. if you do a search on the yahoo answers about the depo shot, you'll hear lots of horror stories about it.  I wish i actually signed up on this yahoo answers thing way before i decided to take the shot myself!  I took my first and last shot in april and i've been bleeding since june!  I was going to try and go back on bc pills but someone suggested not to.  But i just started taking an herbal pill that i read about called Vitex.  Im hoping it will help me.  Best of luck to you
