Question

Ok. so im painting my walls a green/ blue ish color.

my dad decides to get a maroon carpet.

OMFG!? HE IS SO STUPID. i dont want my room looking like christmas...is it gonna look THAT bad????? Should i change the paint color {i really luv the green tho}?

pls help. 10 points for most informative answer.

no. it wont look that bad. just get accesorries that match the wall color and carpet and that are cute and non-christmas. that will stear clear of any christmas theme.

Get a dark green carpet and once it's done tell him how good it looks :)

And if the red really looks that bad put a really big rug over it :)

Your dad is not stupid, he's just.....miss-informed.

If he can't or won't use the holiday carpet in another part of the house, and you REALLY do not want to change the paint color, then just accessorize with things that will match both.

Or get yourself a scatter rug of a color you like to put on top of the maroon carpet.

Yuki, try adding a throw rug with a neutral (which can be in the gray scheme) as the main color and traces of the wall and carpet shades to bring them together.  If you can, try to paint your trim a dark, rich brown. Start by picking up some paint samples at your local hardware store.  You can pick up colors and toss them on the floor to see what you think balances it the best.  Then take the samples you liked, and hit the store for a throw rug.  It really won't be that bad... It will definitely look......interesting. When I was a kid my mom bought red carpet, which I loved but my dad painted the walls all baby blue! There was a bit of a clash, but it seemed to work. I think you should be able to make this work still. You can always add an area rug and furniture and wall decor to break the colors up and make the maroon look less obvious anyway.
