My brother just moved into a new apartment in Miami, FL and is freaking out because he's finding cockroaches all over the place. He says that he's spoken with several neighbors who say you can't avoid having them when you live in Florida, but this can't be true, can it?? How can he get rid of them and make sure they don't come back??

  1. Scatter some white pepper corns in areas where they hide, cupboards, drawers, cabinets, etc. Throw in a couple sticks of cinnamon bark, ants don't like them.

  2. He needs to get someone to fog his apartment. Cockroaches live in colonies, so if he has one, he has a whole bunch. Chances are there's another apartment in the complex who had the first and they have since multipled.

He needs to talk to his landlord and demand that his apartment be professionaly handled. Cockroaches carry deadly diseases, so he shouldn't be messing around with them.

Raid kills a SINGLE cockroach. But considering the penetrating abilities of a cockroach, it's best to leave treatment to a pro.

  3. Move out of Florida. But seriously any good apartment complex should take care of the issue with some spary. If nothing is done I would take somebody to court to get out of the lease. But even when you spray in Florida you're bound to have them nasty little things. Good luck.

  4. call Terminex

  5. Bug bomb.  And check the stripping around your doors, and caulk any cracks or openings.  (Like under sinks)

  6. Usually the landlord is responsible for that. He should talk to them. If they fail to help then he may have to hire an exterminator on his own.

  7. burn them, one by one. With a lighter

  8. ewwww, thats so gross. ive never seen a cockroach in my whole life. some people say im dumb but im just rich. and have a clean town home.

  9. Make sure he's keeping his garbage both in a can and a garbage bag. Also, if he just moved, it's likely that he still has cardboard boxes around, which for some reason, they're attracted to. And definitely some raid spray. If neither of those things are the problem, then he should definitely call his new landlord.

No one should have to live with cockroaches, yuck!

  10. Yes it is true even the rich in Miami have roaches. It is a roach paradise. The climate and humidity is perfect for roaches. Tell him I said move to San Diego. That is where I am from. Oh have him call Orkin and his rental office in the mean time. Sorry!

  11. RAID spray

  12. find a restaurant that serves them as a delicacy.....

sell them to the restaurant.  when the cockroaches figure out what you are up to, they will immediately evacuate the premises and move on....

    ------

Seriously though - cockroaches of the type called "wood roaches" are rampant on the coast and are simply unavoidable...they are not tied to lack of cleanliness.

Get a cat or two, they will keep the population of them very low for you without having toxic buildup of commercial pesticides (very deadly) in the house that your little ones are crawling about in...

  13. Get some boric acid powder or tablets and put them around, everywhere. They are non-toxic to humans and animals, but deadly to roaches.

Keep food sealed up, and this includes dirty dishes.

I would have a talk with the landlord and have the place pest controlled sprayed. The neighbors places needs to be treated as well.

    Dan
