HELP!! Is there any way to rid my chickens of lice before Thursday. I had had an outbreak a few weeks ago, but I thought I had got rid of them all. When I was giving my rooster Regis his pre-show bath I noticed black spots in his feathers near his rear. When I started blow drying him I found little yellowish bugs all over! I sprayed him with lice killer and put him in a separate cage. Then I sprayed my two hens I'm taking to the fair with the bug killer. This morning I gave the roo and hens a bath and then sprayed them again. They all seem to be dead, but I can't get them off!

How can I get rid of them by Thursday?! Is this even possible? I REALLY want to show them at the county fair, but I absoulutly will NOT take them if they have any trace of the lice, because I don't want to infect any other chickens.

Also, what are the black spots in the feathers? Is this caused by the mites? They aren't little bugs. How can I get rid of this?

PLEASE HELP!

  1. Here goes:

    1. Bring in 1 chicken, shower (or if you dont have a shower, you can either attach a hose to your tap or pour clean water over the chickens ) him/her off with warm water and either a lice shampoo or powder, then rinse, and then shower them again this time with tea-tree oil in water.

    2. Take the chicken into a room in the house a blow dry him/her off.

    3. Repeat step 1 and two with all chickens only bringing in ONE at a time.

    4. Leave chickens inside and hose/power wash/water down EVERYTHING the chickens come into contact with, this includes feeders, hoppers etc.

5.Go inside, dont touch the chickens yet. Change your clothes, have a bath or shower and give your hair and body a GOOD wash with shampoo (lice shampoo if you can find some) then put some clean clothes on and then put the chickens back outside.

then daily just put a few drops of tea-tree oil into the feathers and they should be clear.

    Hope this helps!

  2. You need to get a dust for that. It may be at a tractor supply or livestock store. It is possible to but very difficult. You may also try a bathe. Mix som of the stuff for it in water and dip the chickens(all of them) in the water.

The spots could be eggs. I think they have a comb for that that can get them out.

Yes, it can be passed to humans. I have chickens and there were mites that got all over my room. It freaked me out. I got something that you get from store and its like a bomb that releases stuff to kill them. From now on we clean the coop offen.

  3. I think the lice shampoo is what kills the lice.

yes you can lice in your hair too.
