I dropped off my VW at the dealership for a diagnostic check. VW dealership told me that it would be about $1000.00 to fix the car. I have a warranty on the vehicle. They said that the warranty company was going to send over a claims adjuster to see if the repair would be covered. The repairs were not covered but approximately $700.00. I wanted my vehicle get the work done else where. VW then said I have a $450.00 bill to pay to pick up my vehicle. I asked why, when the VW diagnostic charge on there wall is $90.00; because when the claims adjuster came he had them take the car apart to see if the work would be covered or not. The $450.00 charge is for the diagnostic, taking the vehicle apart and putting it back together. I then explained that I didn't give a verbal or written agreement to take my car apart. If the claims adjuster did then the warranty company should cover those charges. How can you take the vehicle apart without the customer’s consent and charge for it? What can I do?

  1. totaly agree that its nuts, but i would guess that if you read the small print you would find that they have a clause that alows them to do this.

start off by being very nice, explain that you werent aware, and that you were led to bealive that your warrenty would cover all work.

if they dissagree, politly inform them that you would like a written breakdown of the work caqrried out,as you are seeking a legal view point.then suddgest that it would be bennificial to all if an arangement can be reached.

    hope this helps

  2. Call your insurance company and B@tch about it they should pay for that bill

  3. I am in complete agreement with you. Since the adjuster asked for the car to be taken apart the insurance should pay and I would tell them so.

  4. Well, you took your car in to be repaired. That's your agreement. When you told them you wanted it to be fixed, they have to do diagnostics to find out what's wrong with it. If they don't run diagnostics, they can't figure it out.

I do agree with you that $450 is awfully steep for diagnostics. $90 sounds much better. It sounds like they "took it apart and put it back together" 5 times!

I would get a detailed bill with labor, parts and diagnostics.

  5. Contact your state consumer affairs or bureau of auto repair.

Inform both the dealership and the insurance company that you are filing a complaint.
