I recently went to the dentist. There have been times when i have went and my jaw locked which was terribly embarrassing. It would lock, I would panic and then we would proceed with the dental work. I have been to a couple of scary dentists before one with less than adequate bedside manner and the other which had an office that looked like something from a Frankenstein movie (serious). At this recent dentist appointment, the dentist couldn't hardly get inside of my mouth before I started panicing. I broke into a sweat and was very upset not to mention embarrassed. I nearly started crying. Please help me. Does anyone know of how to get past this? I don't want my teeth to rot. I don't have any other fears. Just dentists.

  1. here where i live there are dentist for people like you, they put you out completely or give you lots of Ativan so your fears go bye-bye.. long term you could try immersion or hypnosis therapies..

  2. BRUSH YOUR TEETH AND FLOSS!!!

Then you have NOTHING to worry about when you go.

    Be CONFIDENT!!

    GOOD luCK!

  3. Find a dentist you like, ask a friend for a recommendation. Then tell them about how you feel in detail about coming to the dentist (sweaty, nervous, etc.). Depending on the state laws and the dentist you go to, he might prescribe something for your anxiety such as Alprazolam or Nitrous Oxide for treatment. Relax, dentistry has come a long way.

  4. Tell your dentist about your past experiences and ask if there is any way he could prescribe an antianxiety medication you could take about an hour before your dental procedure. Valium, Xanax, there are many that would do the trick. Also tell him about your jaw locking. Perhaps there is something he could do for that too.

  5. if your that scared of the dentist. you should ask if he can put you out with the gas.or ask your doctor if you can get a pill to chill you out.

  6. Tell the dentist. Explain your fears to them.  This will help them be more gentle and a little more patient with you.  And don't watch "Little Shop of Horrors".  Good luck!

  7. hi there ive worked as a dental nurse for over 3 yrs now and bealive me i see this sort of thing allll the time!

there was one man who was very scared that he couldnt get dental work done which he really needed to get done , so what he did was visited his GP and got some relaxants they worked very well for him he even had a tooth taken out!

he was so happy with himself after he cried with emotion , it does help to see a dentist you feel calm with , also i think it would be a good idea to see your doctor and ask for these relaxants they just make you feel calm while being in the dentist if they worked for this man they will work for you , and trust me id rather be sitting in the dentist chair any day then working for one haha , hope this helps you out and good luck with it all also try to do this quick because holes turn into bigger problems if left to long , all the best and you will be fine

  8. I am also scared of going to the dentist.  So much so that I hadn't seen one in about ten years!  In January this year I had to go because one of my teeth cracked in half and fell out and it caused me so much pain!

The dentist gave me gas (like you have when having a baby) and I was so relaxed!  I would just take a couple of big breaths of gas before they gave me a needle and I was a space cadet!

I ended going back and getting my whole mouth done because it no longer bothered me.  And guess what?  I now have a mouthful of perfect teeth!
