My light in my closet broke. Like when I pulled the string it flickered and went out. Its done this once before. Its a very old house. Should I just take the light bulb out and not use it any more. Should I just change the light bulb. Or should I call the electric company and have them look and make sure its okay. I mean is worrying me. I feel unsafe. So if you could answer this it would make me feel much much better. Just tell me what I should do. Am I pulling the string to hard causing the light bulb to blow??

  1. FIRST:  Buy a set of quality bulbs, if they too continue to flicker then go out, then it seems like you will have to purchase a new fixture (light socket).  The closet light fixtures are very inexpensive...  $10 to $20 at Home Depot.

  2. With those type of fixtures and age it is typical for the pull chain to break. Take the bulb out and check it in a different light. When your sure you have a good bulb put it back and pull the chain again if you cant or it doesnt work the pull chain mechanism is broken. This is not unsafe just broken. The fixture itself only costs $3. Any one who is handy should be able to replace it.

  3. I Wouldnt Call someone to look at it. What I would do is go out and Buy a Little Lamp or something and have it inside your Closet. If you dont have anywhere to plug it in, Then you cn buy an Extension cord and plug it in that way. There should be some little lamps you could buy at Walmart or something for like $5.

    I hope I Helped

  4. neh, just change the bulb. but don't buy crummy globes because there shonky as.

  5. check the bulb in another lamp if still good you have a loose or bad element. be careful !

  6. I would be more gentle when you pull the string.
