Question:

Please help! My cat meows at EVERYTHING!?

I adopted a kitten from our local SPCA about 2 months ago. Her name is Miley and she is now about 6 months old and meows at everything! Sometimes it can be helpful if she is telling me she is hungry or needs her litter box cleaned but those meows sound just the same as every other meow.

I have an entertainment center in my room and she likes to jump on top of it but once she gets there she just meows until it drives me crazy. I try to block it off but then she sits on my desk staring up and meowing until she decides to try to jump up there anyways and knocks a ton of stuff over as she either makes it up or falls to the ground. I started to spray her with a spray bottle of water but that doesn't stop her from doing anything. She just runs when she sees that I grabbed it.

She is an indoor cat against her will and sometimes she has to stay in my room because my 2 year old nephew doesn't understand that the back door needs to stay closed. So Miley will meow at my door until I go lock the back door so no one can open it and I let her out but when I let her out she runs down the hallway then comes back and meows at me.

I might not be able to stress how annoying it is to be woken up at all hours because Miley wants something that I don't understand. I feed her and she will snack a bit then jump on me and meow...Can anyone please help me?!

  1. She's bored and wants to play. This will die down once she gets older and if you play with her often

I know I've had my cats for 12 years since they were kittens. It was better because I had more than one so they played with each other but trust me they stilled meowed all the time. Also try to ensure the back door is closed you'd be bored too if you were locked in one room all day

Also spay her but considering you got her from the SPCA she probably already is spayed

  2. AWWWWWWW that is the only way she can talk........we have a cat who meows so much we named her Meowers.  She just loves you...........don't punish her for that.  Make sure she has tons of toys....walmart has a great spinning toy, and the mice they love......good luck!!!!!!!!!

  3. aww! that's so cute. She's just talking to you!

I wish my cat was more vocal, he never meows :)

  4. it sounds like Miley is in heat and needs to be spayed.

couple of symptoms of a cat in heat:

    • If she is a cat who is usually kept inside she will be desperate to get outside, waiting for any opportunity to escape.

    • Your cat becomes very vocal and meows a lot. (This is where the term 'Calling' comes from) This vocalisation can become very noisy with loud yowls day and night. Her voice may become more piercing than usual.
