few things are restricting it from happening. I need to find an island which will not require visa from USA. Secondly I just applied for US passport for the first time and I need to find an island which does not have rules on how long a passport should have been obtained. Ex: aruba will not allow visitors in unless your passport has been in your possession over 3 months before the travel date.

I already took my day offs for next month but am stuck now!!!

  1. Hi! I am in the same predicament somewhat. Here's a few things I found - first regarding the Cayman Islands:

    "Entry Requirements

"US, British and Canadian citizens, and citizens of British Dependent Territories do not require passports, but must present proof of citizenship (passport or birth certificate and current photo ID. A driver's license or voter's registration card alone is not sufficient) and a return or ongoing airline ticket."

    AND:

    British V.I.

    "Entry Requirements:

The British Virgin Islands do not require visas for citizens of the United States. A valid passport is sufficient for a six-month stay."

    also found this:

"NO PASSPORT REQUIRED for travel to St. Croix! The U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico are exempt from the new passport regulations. While a passport is required to travel to other Caribbean islands, U.S. Citizens do not need a passport to travel to St. Croix because it's considered part of the United States!"

  2. An island where you should have no problem is Long Island in New York state.

  3. It will take a couple weeks/months to obtain you passport if you just applied for it.  Besides the USVI and Puerto Rico, why not consider the FL Keys such as Key West.  They might be in the US but they have the tropical feel.

  4. Just a suggestion if you are American  check out U.S. Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico.  You could of course just settle on Key west.

  5. Go to the US virgin islands.

St. Thomas is a blast I went there for 14 days and loved it.

They have many places to stay and a descent night life.

There is quite a bit to do there but it is not cheap but not much is in the Caribbean.

  6. Curacao, located just east of Aruba can also be considered. The only requirement for a US traveler is to have a valid passport and a return ticket.

  7. Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands Puerto, Dominican Republic and a few more of the Caribbean Islands. Those are just a few I can think of off the back. I ended up having to do the same thing as you, but for my wife. Ended up going to Puerto Rico and LOVED IT! I highly recommend there. Also, what about cruises? Look at this site, its one I refer to all the time.

  8. Go to Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands, they only require a gov't issued ID. Puerto Rico is probably the easiest and cheapest to get to and stay in. You can find a hotel for every budget. Also the island is pretty large so there are lots of places to explore.

  9. Puerto Plata - Dominican Republic, at arrival you pay 10us/pp and departure 20us/pp. You just need a passport.
