I am pet sitting this puppy who is 5 months old, owners got him from a pet shop a week ago and are now on vacation for a week. Puppy is at his home during the day and comes home w/ me at night to sleep, except when he's in his crate he cries when I'm not around. Needless to say, it is not fun to listen to. I tried putting his crate in the room where my girlfriend was sleeping and he still cried. I know he's scared and in an unfamiliar place. Any tips on how to help? And going out and buying an alarm clock at this hour isn't an option. Thanks for answering!

  1. Please excuse my attitude but what kind of fool goes out and buys a puppy a week before they go on THEIR vacation? That is not fair to the puppy. Here he is ripped from the only home and family he ever knew, thrust into a pet shop where everything smells funny and strange. Then these nice people come along and take him home with them, love on him just long enough for him to think this is an alright place only to lose his new family and then he has to stay locked up all day, all alone and then gets to go home with another stranger.

People may not think that dogs think the way we do but they do have emotions and that little guy is being put thru the wringer. No wonder he crys all the time. Wouldn't you?

Ok, one thing you can try is to put a towel or something over the crate so he feels more protected. If he is lonely, the only thing you can do is to let him out. But, beware, the more he cries until you let him out, the more he will cry next time. So, if you want to use the crate, don't give in. Sylvia

  2. Ignore him, don't talk to him at all.. Make sure you take him out and get him to pee and p**p before bed. Put him in his crate on the floor beside your bed and ignore him

  3. How would you like to be in a crate in a strange house. Poor pup and poor you. Its not easy they have him then you have him..he is scared and very frightened.

I know people love crates but I hate them.

Takew him out and love him and play with him so he gets ehausted and wants to sleep.

They are like kids. If kids sit all day and watch TV they aren't  tired they haven't used up any energy.

My husband gives him a good rough play for 20 minutes. Then my 9 month oild pup  goes down and sleeps ..YIPEEEEEE

I would try a long walk or a good playtime to wear him out..do it before you go to bed.

    Good luck!

  4. maybe sleep with it in your bed?

  5. Well that was just a brilliant move on the owners' part getting a puppy a week before their vacation...

It seems cruel, but if you have a garage or basement, put the puppy in his crate and put him there where you can't hear him.  He will settle down eventually.

  6. He's a baby, let him sleep in the bed with you.  Surprising how alittle love solves problems.

  7. try putting a blanket over the cape, maybe it will make him fall asleep.
