Question:

Please help! What type of insect would you guess that I have? Could this be something other than Roaches!?

We keep finding small dark brown bugs in and around our bathtub and toilet. These bugs don't really look like roaches I see on the internet but then again I know there are several different species so they could be. The thing is we NEVER see them anywhere else in the house but in the bathroom. I would think if they were roaches they would be all over the house. Am I right? In addition we are in an apartment building and it seems that we are the only apartment experiencing this. They have antennae and run pretty fast. Also, terminix has come out and she always baits them but never seems to find anything. I have saved them (gross I know) and showed them to her but she neither confirms nor denies if they are roaches or not. Is it possible that they are some other insect and not roaches? If so what other insect could it be? The woman from terminix said if they are coming from the drain there is nothing that can be done since she can't poor poison down the drain. So is there ANYTHING I can pour down the drain to help? Please help! Any info someone can give regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

  1. do you have any pics of the critters?  If you could post a photo of the bug (s) it would help in identifying them and maybe finding a solution.

  2. Instead of pouring insect poison down the drain, use something that is made for the drain as if it were clogged up.  It should push out anything stuck in the P-traps.  Then, get a rubber plug to use all the time except when you're actually letting water drain out.

  3. Some good pictures would be incredibly helpful in answering. One of the few insects that I've dealt with in drains are "filth flies"- sorry no scientific name. We have them on occ. where I work. We simply pour diluted bleach down the drain and that solves the problem. (At least for a few months, then we have to repeat the process)

Let me know if you post some pics. Good luck.

Another idea: perhaps you're only finding them in the bathroom because that's where they can find moisture.
