I know he's a baby. He's the size of a 50 cent piece. Someone told me he's a box turtle and pet co says he's a spotted pond turtle. Does anyone know? And if you know what he is.. what kind of habitat should he be in? I have him in substrate now and all he wants to do is dig himself in and sleep. He wont come out for light. He wont come out for water or food. I'm afraid he'll starve himself in the dirt.

  1. He's a baby Eastern Box Turtle!

    [They're Endangered]

Here's a tip, NEVER release a wild caught/captive breed animal into the wild!

  2. The person at petco gave you really bad advice. That is an eastern box turtle and it is very rare to find a juvenile. Try to create a woodland habitat with potting soil. There should be a shallow dish that it can soak in. It is usual for turtles not to eat when they are put into places they are not familiar with. If this continues for more than a week or two, try tempting it with live earthworms. No turtle can resist them. Then give it a balanced diet: insects, worms, fish, liver, meat, and dark green leafy vegetables. You can also give it some fruit and vegetable parings if you avoid citrus, onion, head lettuce, and cabbage. You have taken on the responsibility for a rare turtle. Do your best

  3. Im pretty sure it is a baby spotted turtle

    here are some care sheets:

  4. TRO-LS are mean.

Check 'Austinsturtlepage.com' and check the pictures.

Wait for a "Y" persons called ' Been there done that.." and she is great! Or Oikos..great on these guys!

    She'll be able to help.

  5. Does he have three toes on his back feet? If he does, he is a three toed box turtle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrapene_c... If he has all four toes then he could be an eastern box turtle. I hope this helps.

  6. by seeing the 4 toes in the 2nd picture, i think it is a eastern box turtle or a ornate box turtle.

  7. Did you find him? If you did put him back were you found him, he will know how to take care of himself.

  8. I'm pretty sure that he's a Box Turtle. The way his eyes and mouth are just indicates that he is (to me, anyway). If you put in "Baby Box Turtles" in the Yahoo images search bar, you can view pictures of them and see the resemblance! Well, anyway, hope that helps! If you are still wanting a clear answer, your best bet might be to go to a vet or contact someone who works with Turtles. But I'm fairly sure your turtle is a Box...
