  1. well the street that has good resturaunts is mulberry street! have fun

  2. I think you are getting you're areas a bit confused.. downtown, midtown, uptown.. there are many streets in an area

I think you may have fun downtown where more kids/students are- there are A LOT of fashion/clothing stores in SoHo, Union Square (Broadway & 14th) is always popular as well..

If you are down in SoHo you can check out Cafe Havana for food (on Elizabeth & Prince), or the NoHo star (330 Lafayette, will be on the corner of Bleeker St.)

Depending on what you want for food, there are a lot of good restaurants around h**l's Kitchen (around 9th & 45th).. which isn't too far away from Time Square (42nd & 7th ave) All you do is walk UP a few blocks, say 4 to 46th, make a LEFT and walk 2 avenues)

If you are in the mood for like sausages and German food, there is a great restaurant called Hallo Berlin (I think it's called)- 10th & 44..

If you are coming into the city from Grand Central - you can take the S train crosstown or walk to Time Square (10 minute- easy walk- pass by Bryant Park which is a nice park) and then connect to N,Q,S subway from Time Square and take it to 14th St., I think it's like 3 subway stops (Union Square)

The city is VERY easy to navigate, if you go north or uptown the numbers go up (66, 67, 68 etc).. and if you go south or downtown the numbers go down (15, 14, 13, etc.) As for Avenues- the EAST side is avenues 1, 2, 3, Lenox Ave, Park Ave- Midtown is avenues Madison Ave, 5, 6, 7, Broadway- WEST side is 8, 9, 10, 11, 12th ave)

SoHo can be confusing because the number grid turns to street names (bleeker, houston, canal etc.) and it is hard to navigate.. My best advice in SoHo is to take a cab around- but you won't get lost.. remember, walk up in the direction you came and you will get back to the regular city..

  3. If you are alternative/goth/punk or enjoy people watching, check out St. Mark's place.  They have a cheap CD store, some interesting clothing stores, and other things.

hopstop.com is a good site.  It gives subway/bus directions.

Lately I shop alot around union square.  They have an American Eagle, DSW, Strawberry, and Forever 21.  2 blocks down on what I think is 7th ave they have Urban Outfitters and in the 17th street and 7th ave area they have other good stores.  They also have some thrift shops.  And Old Navy is somewhere in that area too.
