I've had my beardie for 4 years, and i absolutely adore him. hes a good looker, lil bit or orangeish yellow on his face and back. his names spike, hes always been an incredibly active beardy, jumping from couch to couch, climping so high i freaked when i saw, never could sit still. well this year, he isnt as active, he doesnt attack his worms so violently and he doesnt run and climb a lot, all he does is find a cold dark place all the time. how can i get my pet to get back to normal? please help, i love my bearded dragon a lot, I'm only 13 and i cant take him to the vet just for this. =<

 1. he may just be getting a little older trying to settle down a bit or he doesnt have the energy because of his age or he doesnt have the energy from lack of calcioum or vitamins

 2. You need to make sure his basking spot is just the right temperature or he won't bask and warm up properly. Use a digital probe thermometer to measure the basking temp. It should read 100F. Adjust you lamp or use a dimmer switch to adjust the temps until you get 100F. Too warm or too hot will lead to health problems.

 3. Hmm, well unfortunately it can be any number of things. Can you tell me a bit more about his set-up? Things like: tank size, what kind of lighting you're using (be as specific as possible, include brand names, wattage & how old!), how far are the lights, whats the substrate (flooring), what's his diet like, does he get any salads (if yes, what exactly do you use & how often). Also, where are you located? If you're in a colder climate, it's possble he's experiancing something called burmation, which is a reptilian form of hibernation; however I always like to rule out husbandry errors first since that's most common (and often easily correctable!). You may email me with your answers if you'd like: oooshortygirl@yahoo.com and I'd be happy to help you further. Of course, having a reptile vet see your dragon WOULD be best; if you can convince your parents that reptiles need check ups just like a cat or dog & offer to do chores to make up for the money it takes, that would be good! Good luck & Let me know if you need more help! ~Michelle
