My brother in law just got married and wanted us to live in military housing with them. He will be going back to Iraq in October and his wife would be living alone. Is it even possible or legal?!!!

Can someone please answer this! Thank you!!

  1. No. Only dependent children and spouses.

  2. what you can do, is have him go to the housing office, tell him that he is going to iraq in october bring some orders adn see if you can get permission for you guys to live on base. otherwise you wont be able to stay there more than two weeks.

but housing might say no unless you have a good reason, be sure you can get it in writting that way you know they cant do anything to ya...

  3. No. Only as guests for a limited number of days (30 days usually). If the base housing authority discovers non-eligible residents in the quarters beyond that permissible guest period the eligible residents will be evicted, along with the non-eligible residents.

  4. Guests and visitors are welcome.  You may be classified as a guest or visitor.  Residency is innappropriate.  The exceptions would be minors for whom military personnel is legal guardian.

  5. no.  only legal dependents may live in MFH.  his spouse and children ONLY.  Guests may stay for up to 30 days with approval from housing.

  6. only dependents

  7. I don't know what the military regs are concerning people living on base with a military family.  I do know that I have stayed, with a temporary military ID with my son and his family for over 6 weeks at a time, with no questions ask.

Good luck on getting the corect answer.  Marcia G.

  8. You are not authorized to live with them.  You can go to housing and ask them about it...sometimes they will have a waiver...BUT it is for military dependents.  The only exception is if a family member is moving in to help with childcare or help taking care of another family member who is ill.  That would be about it.

Alot of times people get away with it...having someone move in..and if you are quiet don't cause problems then you might be ok..but with the new privatized housing...I don't know how they are.  If they have neighbors who are nosey they might turn you in.

I would have them call housing and find out...it does not hurt to ask.

    Good Luck

  9. Yes.

A service member can put any relative onto his DEERS list.

You can make a parent your dependant, a cousin, a brother or sister.

Any relative, even a grand parent can be a dependent.

Once they are a dependent then they can get an ID card.

I have seen it many times.

  10. NO! If you visit for a month, perhaps!

  11. We're in teh Army and my neighbor's mom lives with her and her husband. I see it all the time, especially during deployments. You can do it legally, but you have to contact the housing department at your post to determine the specs for your fort.

  12. Technically no you can't but you can visit for a brief time and be a house guest.  Exceptions are made for a relative who is incapacitated like a mother or a father whereby more than half their support is provided by the military sponsor or an individual that the sponsor adopts who then becomes their dependent.  I had on one occasion a commander who had his mother living with him and his family and who was required to live on base but I don't know if she also had full dependent status.
